There are some excellent open houses that I’m thinking are perfect for our class at the Archives Week in New York. The link has a PDF schedule attached to it.
After yesterday’s class – I am highlighting just a few of the events that we may be interested in.
- October 10 – Maple Grove Cemetery Association, Walking Tours, 10 am, 12 pm, & 2 pm
- October 12 – NYC Dept. of Records, Municipal Archives, Introduction to Photo Research, Presentation, 3:00 PM
- October 13 – NYU Archives, Open House, 9:30 – 5:00 PM; Barnard College Archives and Zine Collection, Tours & Open House, 2 – 5 pm, New York Transit Museum Archives Tour, 3:45 – 5 pm
This would be a great way to put a face to our names when we request to access the records in these archives!

I’ve never thought of a cemetery as an archive.
But I wonder if people ever release doves from Green-wood. If so, I wonder if they contract out to someone…
Maybe I’ll go tomorrow. I’ll bring a recorder. If I don’t find anything for this project, then at least I’ll have something for the Halloween news broadcast at http://www.newschoolradio.org
